frontal fog

A type of fog formed by the interaction of two adjoining air masses. Air becomes saturated from the rain falling from clouds formed in the warm air and intersects with the cold air beneath until it, too, is saturated. The fog thus formed will extend from the ground up to the layer of the clouds in the warmer air.
